Wow, even O-81s are barely enough. That thing's a beast!! Nice video Peter! Happy New Year

More Henry and less coal!!!! Very cool ...I still want one of those...
Uhmmm yeaaaah that is a bunch of overhang. But it is a beauty no question.
is that a 3rd rail jawn henry?..boy see that on a 072 would be really pushing it..
Peter, Happy New Year!! Great video ....WOW That looks like the BEAST FROM THE EAST That is a LARGE ENGINE FOR SURE. Thank you Peter!!!!
Wow you may need to expand the curves to something bigger. Looks like a good puller as well.

trackside signal's worst enemy
what a behemoth!
Peter,
Thanks for sharing that video. How much scenery damage did the Jawn Henry leave in its wake?
Now you can begin to appreciate why GE split the GTEL8500 Locomotive into two separate units. Both C&O M1 and Jawn Henry are less that optimal on typical 3 rail type radii. I have 072, and have limited myself to locos no longer than the N&W A Class, and even that is pushing it!
OMG! That Jawn really is a beast!!
Thanks Peter & Happy New Year!!
WOW! Don't know what else to say!
Does it negotiate O-31?
Good thing about the internet is nobody can see my SEG when I post.
The 3rd Rail Jawn Henry received my nomination for the "2013 Hardware Product of the Year." I will make a rather rash prediction that over the next 5 yrs the JH will become the most copied model ... by those other guys. Having demonstrated demand & economic viability, what was once an esoteric request will become as duplicated as Mike's first 1995 scale Challenger.

Have to agree a GREAT product! That is why I had my order in not long after Scott announced the possibility. For 6-years or so before that I had been trading emails with one of the VP's at MTH to make this since they already had more than some experience with Span Bolster models.
As to anyone else building the Jawn Henry I say the chances are now less than ZERO. First off they would have to tool for the cab body and tender body at somewhere between 100K to 250K each. They would have to sell a LOT of models and/or charge a BIG price each. Also it takes a lot of design work to power two pivoting three axle trucks under a pivoting span bolster inside a narrow cab body to make O72 curves. Scott has patented 3rd rail's design. 3rd Rail came up with a nice design. I had given this a lot of thought before request MTH to build since I did mechanical design for years (oh which included tooling design) before going to professional Quality Management. 3rd Rail made 120 units, 70 3R and 50 2R, a recent Scott email states just two left in each.
Now having run my JH on O72 there is not that much worst than seen in the video above. Here a quick snap on local dealer's layout on O72 FasTrack.
My NdeM Baldwin Centipede on 072 is even worse.
good post peter
Great looking , the army train was great also

Thank you for posting, Peter. I only brought half of my N&W hopper cars with me. Primarily because putting the consist together and then packing it back up just takes so much time. When the home layout is done, this is one engine that will get stored in place on the layout.
The 3rd Rail 2300 is "rated" for 054. This particular unit has an issue is ANY 072 right hand curve (haven't attempted anything smaller). The back truck binds to the point of stalling. No problem turning left, so left turns it is. My home layout on the outside loop has 0138 on one end and 089 on the other. It should run OK.
FWIW, I have the MTH C&O M1 as well. Its' overhang is similar. We didn't hit anything, but it got real close (~3/32") to Kanawha's crossing signals!

Wow! Time to look at 54" radius (O-108) for that beast.
Peter,
EeeHAA, put a saddle on that beast and ride it, man I love that Engine!

Is Jawn longer than the C&O Turbime??? I don't recall mine hanging that much???

Yes Dave the JH is about 1 1/2-inches longer. In this picture the rear of the tenders are aligned.
Cool pic! Thanks
Wow, that thing is a beast
That thing would knock down a few trees on the layout along with some signals.
Those coal hoppers in the video look a bit too modern behind that Jawn Henry.
I agree it's definitely a monster of a locomotive.
