When I was in the Navy this was all we ever used to clean and polish metals. Just wondering if anyone has used this on their tracks and if so what were the results ?

Metal polish typically leaves some type of protective residue. Probably not the best idea for conductivity.
I will say that the used stuff makes for a great fire starter given its saturation with some sort of mineral oils. Probably not the best residue to leave on your rails.
Not the most "Nose" friendly, but lacquer thinner will dissolve grease and leaves no residue. For that matter acetone works in the same manner. You shouldn't let either of them get absorbed into your skin though.
I remember using Brasso on my belt buckles. That's what the Boatswain gave us to use when we were stateside on the brass in the head.
