Like many model train enthusiasts of a certain age I grew up with a Gilbert Erector set along with AF trains.  After I retired I again became interested in building erector/construction set models.  Unfortunately there wasnt much out there (some basic Erector brand sets at Toys R Us) which soon disappeared.  I went to the internet and discovered Merkur and ordered their largest set (#8) and was generally impressed with the quality and affordable price.  I bought an number of these sets and have built quite a few models over the years but these sets are now harder to come by and have also become more expensive.  Girders and Gears has one of the better web-sites if you are interested in erector set systems and have a number of models to look at.  Meccano (now made in France) still makes sets but they are very expensive (some are thousands of dollars).  Another good resource is the Meccano Web Ring and some of the models are pretty amazing.  Its a shame there isnt more thats available and affordable as tinplate trains and erector models are made for each other.   bertiejoa

As of interest, lets say we chose Engine ( not steamer), and 4 cars,

say gondola. tank, reefer, caboose,  ( already ) looking at 9610 Rah tank car - Shell,

how do you figure the cost coming to the usa,   the  9610, shows 33.40 of your currency,  any help, ofsome kind of a formula,

Yeah we used the Queens or Kings English in the catalogue. However I understand the US terms too.

Be aware the prices on my ebsite are inclusive 21% Dutch VAT. When I ship outside the EEC thre will be no VAT. Local taxes will and has to be paid by the costumer.

Shipment to the US is done by the Dutch post. They are the cheapest and won't charge you for custom handling.

Prices are:

till 2 kg    € 24,30

till 5 kg    € 34,30

till 10 kg  € 58,30

till 20 kg  € 105,30

It takes about 10 work days to de delivered.

So the shipment of one tank car is relative expensive.

When I first discovered ETS, it was all 2 rail. And the track and flanges while not scale O gauge, looked close. The Merkur 2 rail appears to have tubular rails. Are the 2 brands compatible in 2 rail form?

Hi Casey,

The ETS rail has the same profile as for example Atlas. MERKUR has a tubular profile like you mee see in the Lionel tubular tinplate Railway track.

MERKUR and ETS are not compatible. ETS made a connection between three rail Atlas and tinplater tubular but that is a three rail component.

The two rail MERKUR track is not available in points (switches) and crossings

Yes, that was quite a storm on monday. I stayed indoors in the warm all day. I didn't have to travel anywhere after I got home to Apeldoorn on sunday evening.
