I would LOVE to buy the "Savings Bonds" 4921-for a good reason. When I was 13, my family took a trip from Philadelphia-30th Street to South Station Boston on, I believe, the Amtrak Senator or Minute Man, where we sat in an ex-Congressional parlor car at the back of the train. The 4921 was our power from Philly to New Haven-she was the first GG-1 I had ever seen in real life, and VERY impressive and noisy when it roared down the platform in the dark in 30th Street pulling our train. Would love to recreate that ride by getting the 4921 and a set of Amtrak aluminum cars.

I also was intrigued by these.  They look like they might be the old K-Line models that had the full length door railings and lighted marker/class lights.

I'd like to see a short video with a horn blast that includes both the bicentennial version and one of the other versions in order to evaluate the horn and the "God Bless America" sound.  They might have promise, but at $199 they are at a price point that is greater than the 14" die-cast Williams by Bachmann and more than some conventional Lionel w/ railsounds and early Railking.  The bicentennial version might interest me, but since I already own a K-Line, Williams and MTH 14" GG1, the RMT GG1 needs to demonstrate that it is worth the price.

"Originally designed and produced by K-Line Electric Trains of Chapel Hill, NC in 1988, the GG-1 was a true classic locomotive. This die cast engine features dual vertical motors with flywheels, prototypically correct doors and ladders, operating headlight, operating marker lights and working pantographs."

Thanks Rob.  After looking back to the email announcement and reviewing each GG1 item's description I saw everything you posted except for the K-Line reference.

Walter, I look forward to the video and hopefully a demo at York.  Since RMT/Arista-O now appear to have the K/L GG1 mold, can you re-run the very stunning and hard to find GG1 Liberty scheme that was designed by K-Line and eventually produced/distributed by K/L by Lionel?  I must add ...I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the very good detail and smooth rolling performance of the RMT covered hoppers, depressed flats, and 6464 boxcars and reefers.

And I'm wondering if it HAS an e-unit?  There's none mentioned in the description.

Bill

What description? It's a one-liner!  As long as there's space for the ERR Mini Commander 2, I don't care if it has an E-Unit.

Description

3-rail 0/0-27 gauge. SPEEDER features flashing roof beacon, operating front headlight, metal wheels, 2 seated figures, ON-OFF switch. exceptional painting and lettering.

gunrunnerjohn...GG1 description is now 'chock-full' of all the information you might need...

3-rail O-gauge.
Dimensions: approx. 14.5in. Long x 3.75in. High x 2.5in. Wide
Die Cast Body
2 Vertical Drive Motors with Flywheels
3 Position Reversing Unit F-N-R
Operating Headlights
Operating Marker Lights
Prototypically Correct Ladders and Doors
Horn Sound

NOTE: Red-White-Blue GG1 #1776 has no horn but plays musical rendition of "God Bless America"
Moveable Pantographs

Regarding your earlier upgrade question...older Kline catalog references indicate it is possible.

The description for the new Motorized SPEEDER is different also.

Thanks.

Sounds like a pretty cool project, it would be cool to see some pictures of how the board and antenna are installed. How does the mini commander 2 control the strobe light?

I'll take some pictures when I start.   As far as the strobe, I just put a blinking LED in, problem solved.  I use the MiniCommander with the LED headlights and smoke unit output, so you can control the strobe with the smoke keys.

The antenna is just wire coiled up near the top of the rear cavity.  If that's not enough, I'll run it around the ceiling of the cab.

It looks like I'll have to push out the back about 1/4" to fit the board in.
