Is anyone in for a 2-8-8-4. on the fence with price

It’s near the end of the catalog. Paste 144. If it had more Lionel detail I’d be tempted.
A lot of stuff I like but unfortunately I don’t think I will be ordering any of them. I have been waiting for Lionel to do a Legacy PRR T1 for some time now. Don’t know why they don’t I think it would be a big seller especially if they offer a as built, in service and a near end version. Here is the stuff I like:
4-4-0 Hybrid PRR - a lot of money for a engine not in my modeling era
4-6-6T US Army - nice but need a 45% discount to put it in line with what I paid for my H10, B6 and E6 Legacy Steamers
G Bush SD70Ace #4141 - Great President, war hero may regret not ordering this one
Morristown & Erie S2 #14 - Saw the M&E go buy when I worked for Nabisco in their East Hanover NJ Location another may regret
Penn Central F7 AA set w super base B Unit - As a PRR fan I just can’t buy Penn Central
Alaska F 7 Passenger Train - love the colors I don’t run 21” passenger cars
NS Business F7 Train - see above
PRR Catenary View Dome Car - Love the name see above
PRR 60” Boxcars - too big for my era on the PRR
PRR 0-6-0T Switcher - may pick up later if on sale or at a train show
Shark Research and Rescue Train Get - I don’t do non scale but love the fins. Who gets rescued the shark or its victims?
Prisoners 6 pack - because I am a republican
HO Army Hospital Train Set - not my scale but nice set.

I've heard they cannot make that engine (as well as the N&W Class A) due to losing a lawsuit with MTH decades ago. They can do the Lionmaster version, but not scale.

DCC or DCS? TMCC? Legacy? 'Lion Chief'? Sound? -NOPE! -Give me a good old fashioned open-frame motor where I can still hear the electric hum and buzz and still smell the ozone... Let me hear the actual real sound of small metal wheels click-tracking over tubular track and I'm in toy train heaven! I don't really care about fancy complicated bells and whistles nor the latest electronic gadgets. (And if I ever do, I can wait. -It'll all depreciate soon enough... ;>})

Skip, you have a Postwar heart and soul! That's a very good thing. LOL, Arnold
Dear Lionel,
In all seriousness...
Instead of all these silly fantasy schemes....
If you really want to be smart at charging those prices just to burn up inventory, I would posit that you might be so much more successful if you just offered plain solid colors, black, green, red, blue, and grey along with a decal set of options so people could customize the locomotives with their own tabletop railroad/business/or nickname.

And the Dreyfus Hudson. I don't know if they can't build it period, or if there are some terms and or conditions in the suit that prevent them from doing for some stretch of time. I wouldn't think that would be the case(but what do I know about that). It could be that they have to start from scratch on toolings, and haven't even got out of that box yet. One can never tell. I know I have mentioned it at York to Ryan on two occasions(Oct 2017, Oct 2018) about the Dreyfus.

Thought the same about gondolas for those 0-6-0s. They do have the new small dump cars (no specific livery) located on the next page of the catalog. A 4-car set. I may consider those.
Edit: Item No. 2026010, Side dump car 4-pack.
When I heard about the Penn Central F7 set I was all set to order it...... until I saw it was a post merger set. I was hoping it was all in PC black.
A few items interested me. I may order all of them, some of them or none.
- I-12 red B&O Caboose
- UP Excursion add on passenger cars
- Northern Central 4-4-0 #!& "York" & matching passenger cars (Only because I road this train)
- Santa Fe 4-8-4 #3751 (I've always wanted one but I'm still on the fence. I like the matching passenger cars but I may look for a MTH set that has people in it and get the Stationsounds diner )
I'm still pondering a Legacy Challenger from last catalog. I've had fairly good luck with Lionel, but I just don't know how long my luck will last.
I ordered the Bethlehem Steel version of the Docksider. With all the features I thought the price was a misprint! Can’t wait for it to arrive.

I also just ordered a Docksider although it's the Brooklyn Terminal livery. I'm a big LC+ fan and am looking forward to my first LC 2.0 loco.
Just ordered the Legacy Missouri Pacific 4-8-4 Northern, expected delivery is June 2020. We will see.
Well...finally tracked down a catalog....looked closely at the "#90" in the "Strasburg" set, but it is an 0-8-0, and not a Decapod. Bummer! The UTLX tankcar is HO, and not O. Bummer! Everything else looked like summer television. Woe is me.
Pre-ordering the LionChief 2.0 765 Berk for my birthday. Getting a logging disconnect caboose for my birthday as well. Going to convert it into a Narrow Gauge caboose for a yet-to-be-built three-rail O scale version of the Talyllyn Railway in Wales.

I would certainly like to own the Western Maryland version, but the price is way, way over my budget. I am not saying it is overpriced, just that the most I could put into any engine is 1/3 of that.
All Union Pacific for me although only passenger cars. In the UP Excursion line I have gone for (1) add on set #4 which is the one with the Lone Star Business Car and (2) the Promontory “Experience the Union Pacific” former RPO baggage car.
The catalog illustration of the latter car shows it has six wheel trucks:
Please pardon my ignorance but although this strikes me as definitely unusual compared to all of the other Excursion cars offered by Lionel, it seems to be accurate to the prototype, at least judging by the below image:

I would like to mention that Charles Ro, mr. muffins, and train world put the wrong photo for the #4 pack. It shows the wrong vista dome and the second car isn’t even the observation car. Any thoughts?

A couple dealers have the wrong photos.
Additionally, the catalog shows Lone Star and Kenefick with 4 wheel trucks, but I confirmed with Dave that they'll come with the correct 6 wheel trucks!
Only thing of mild interest is the set of four side dump ore cars.....some items are unbelievable, such as all those super short cars on one truck. Could have provided a list of items that R&D $ would have been better spent on.
