I’ve tried to resist posting my homemade New Haven hobo boxcar #33406 in this thread but here it is – with two passengers by Arttista but, of course, no sounds. I’ve been running this car for years. I don’t miss the hobo sounds but hope that everyone enjoys your Lionel cars – and Happy New Year.

Looking at MELGAR's hobo car, I think I might do the same thing and make a hobo boxcar with my K-Line Herbie car, and put Herbie on board. (Herbie, as famous as he was, probably deserves his own boxcar!)

Hey Weener Dog,

I think the background sound You hear is an Outside Campfire with the cracking & popping of a wood fire !!!   Maybe from one of the earlier Hobo Accessories they issued years back!!! However I dont see the Fire inside the Boxcar !!  LOL

Actually, that sounds feasible and gives me a whole new perspective, I'll have to listen to the sounds again. Possibly too much drinking and now a possible fire in the boxcar, sounds like the railroad police may want to take a look. Happy New Year everyone.

Received mine from Charles Ro the other day and finally opened it up last night.... has to go back to Ro or Lionel, as soon as I placed the car on the layout, the breaker tripped so mine has a short or bad wiring somewhere. You would think they would test these things at the factory before shipping....

Dave, try looking at the undercarriage for a thorough visual inspection. There are times when the roller or grounding strip may have shifted causing a direct short. If that’s not the case then certainly a return under warranty is the only solution.

Running with the Trackers at the TCA WB&A show Sunday in Annapolis. I debuted my new Lionel Rock Island Hobo boxcar at the end of the train, I had to wait over a year for it, but it was well worth the wait, it’s a fun addition, I heard a few spectators point it out.

Happy that it came with the “clickity clack” sounds instead of the “bowling alley” sounds in my CNW sound boxcar. Wasn’t sure, the catalog didn’t say. I like the harmonica playing and the conversations between the hobos. I also like the detail, and the hidden tab uncouplers. Very pleased with this item. Expectations exceeded.
