New to DCS

Let's start at the neginning.  What transformer(s) are you using?  How are the transformer & TIU wired up?

Hi Dick,

A "Z4K track" is a really a throttle on a Z-4000 transformer.  Your avatar photo clearly shows you have a Z-4000, but I'm going to assume that since you didn't recognize this term that you don't have a Z-4000 Commander Receiver.  That's a radio receiver that plugs into the Z-4000 transformer and allows you to control it's two throttles from the DCS remote.  To get out of that screen you need to press the "TR" button on the remote and select one of your TIU's variable channels.  By default, these channels should be labeled "Variable 1" and "Variable 2" in the remote.

To get you up and running DCS in command mode I would make two suggestions.  First, set up a simple loop of track away from your layout and hook up DCS.  Run that simple setup for a while so you get accustom to how DCS "should" work.  Then you can tackle the task of hooking DCS up to your layout and debugging any issues.  Second, get Barry's book.  It's worth every penny.

Thanks for the suggestions, I bought Barry's book on line from MTH a few days ago and also went into the operators manual on the MTH site.  Guess I'll just have to dive in and sort it out.  I've used DCS on other layouts so am familiar with what it is supposed to do.  I've certainly got enough source material!
