Some of my favorite big articulated steam locomotives are SP's unique and powerful Cab Forwards. We've seen SP Cab Forwards in O-Scale from both Lionel and MTH. Lionel's version depicts the AC12-Class 4-8-8-2 Cab Forwards that were the last versions built (one, #4294 has been preserved and resides in Sacramento, California at the California State RR Museum). MTH has made a couple versions of the Cab Forwards, too.

My idea is for Lionel to make new Vision Line Cab Forwards with new details depicting some of SP's other classes, including the following:

-MM2-Class 2-6-6-2: 12 engines, built in 1911

-AM2-Class 4-6-6-2: rebuilt from MM2s in 1914

-MC1-Class 2-8-8-2: 2 engines; originally standard Mallet engines converted to Cab Forwards; built in 1909

-MC2-Class: rebuilds of MC1s; 15 total; built in 1909; rebuilds in 1923

-AC1-Class: 15 rebuilt MC2s; rebuilds in 1923

-MC4: 12 units; built in 1911

-AC2: 12 rebuilt MC4s; rebuilt in 1930

-MC6: 20 units; built in 1912

-AC3: rebuilt MC6; 20 units; rebuilt in 1912-1913

-AC4-AC12: 4-8-8-2s; Lionel has produced only the AC12s

Some of the early Cab Forwards (MM and MC-Classes) were compounds (with high and low pressure cylinders) that were rebuilt as simple (all cylinders the same size). Feedwater heaters were added to the rebuilds.

Are there any SP fans who would want some of the other Cab Forward designs, other than the AC12s, to be produced as Vision Line models? I think that these interesting engines should be produced.

At one point Lionel announced an AC-4 but did not get enough orders to justify moving forward with tooling so it was dropped.

3rd Rail has done AC-4s, 5s, and 6s in brass which are nice models but pre-TMCC. They also did the AM-2 which was rather pricey at $1800. They announced MM-2 about 4-5 years ago and recently dropped the project due to insufficient interest to make the project financially viable.

I myself am a very serious SP fan and modeler but I honestly have to say my modeling interest in the early AM and AC locomotives is limited. While I love all SP steam and it would be cool to own models of most of the locomotives they operated, my finances don’t warrant this. I have opted to limit my era from 1940 to the late 50s to keep my collection from running rampant. I already have an AC-6, AC-9, and AC-12 so there isn’t much else I’d be after. I suppose I would bite on an AC-1 thru 3 in their rebuilt, simpled configuration. Some of them ran into the early 50s. I had a passing interest in the MM-2 that 3rd Rail was trying to produce but couldn’t justify the price.

It would be great to see another of these earlier cab forwards produced, especially one with a whaleback tender.

I would like Lionel to make the PRR HC1 articulated steam engine. The last PRR big steam locomotive that has yet to be done in O guage/ O scale. A rerun of the CCII would be nice as well.

While not following the OP's SP dream, another PRR engine I don't think anyone has done is the N2sa.  The Pennsy received 130 of these USRA heavy 2-10-2 engines in 1919 and greatly modified them in 1923 to PRR standards (Belpaire firebox, raised headlight/moved bell, doghouse).  These lasted until 1952.  Nice big engine.  The basic USRA engine was used by four other railroads: Bessemer and Lake Erie; Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy; Erie; and Colorado and Southern.  Maybe they could do the USRA version and both PRR's versions to get more sales.

Yes I will take that as well as as delivered USRA Heavy 2-10-2.
