I'm sorry, neither photograph is accurate and cannot be used for color comparison.
ISO 3664:2009 for color accuracy is very clear on this:
"ISO 3664:2009 also states that the light source must ensure a certain quality of illumination, i.e., spectral stability and color reproduction accuracy, by having a general CRI (color rendering index) of 90 or greater."
The previous photograph is under very strong lighting conditions which will tend to make colors appear lighter. The photograph you posted is under low ambient lighting conditions which makes colors appear darker.
Even so, from the photograph above the Lionel unit is much lighter shade of grey while the MTH unit is a much darker shade of grey (from the photo of the units side by side), so I guess the point is that neither MTH nor Lionel rendered the colors correctly?
Anyways, to determine the accuracy of the colors one needs to use the CIE color coordinate system and gloss measurement using a color/gloss meter
http://www.glossmeters.com/color-meter.html
otherwise all this talk about color and who is better than someone else by eye is really nonsense.
WBC right !!! Without that tool and the original paint to look at.. OR the paint code for the original paint. Its just opinion. Even in the low light picture above the Lionel looks to be closer in color.
Is the body die cast like the Atlas for weight purposes?

Is the MTH SW2 a Railking or Premier model? If it's Railking, you're comparing apples and oranges. Railking units may not have smoke, but they're much cheaper than Legacy models. A comparison of Legacy and MTH Premier would be valid, although the MTH would still be cheaper.
So I received my SP version today. As you can see its broken. Any ideas on how to re-attach the truck? Looks like it is screwed into the truck from under the frame. Different from anything they have done in the past. I guess I will have to take the shell off to do that. Whats that link to Dave?

The O&W NW2 being referenced in the post is a Rail King model.
Lower price, less content. Blue streak, sorry to see your SP model was broken. I've never seen anything like that. I don't know how to fix it, but I'd probably start by taking off the shell, like you. Good luck.
Blue Streak, dumb question but I must ask: Have you tried putting the truck assembly into the hole at 90 degrees to the right? Then twist back to the forward position? That's how my SD60E truck assembly reattaches to the frame. I don't have a switcher to try it on so excuse my advice if it's not valid.
For those that got their NW2's, did they come with bluetooth control as well as Legacy?

NO!
Anyone got any videos of their nw2s? I would like to see what the sounds are like
Does Lionel's SW2 have two (2) motors or one (1)?
1 motor. It is mounted in the middle of the engine, and share by both drive wheels.
Sorry, shared by both trucks, not wheels.
Can someone please post a video of these already? If you took pictures and uploaded them is it really that hard to upload a video! Please those who already have nw2s a clip of its basic sounds will greatly appreciate those who are looking to purchase one. Besides, the motion to post a video had been approved over 4 times!
Thanks to those who do post pictures and videos!

The worn, faded and weather beaten version is the one Lionel was trying to replicate, so it sounds like they got it just right. Sounds like you were hoping for a model of the fresh out of the shop paint scheme.

Just thought some of you would like to know the MTH Railking SW 1200 and SW 9 in the current catalog have two motors.
The 2016 lionel catalog says the lion chief plus NW2 has two motors. EDIT: Got one from Trainworld but it only has one motor. It pulls like a tank! Smokes great! Sounds great!

You are right. Most preferably also a model that looks closer to the 20-plus color photographs published books on NYO&W, closer to actual historical files and information available from railway historical societies and the way #116 specifically was restored by the NYS&W railroad too.
By the way, I just received nearly a pallet load of Lionel NYO&W models. On the one I tested, sounds are very good, smoke works, and I haven't seen any major issues with our shipment yet.
Sorry, Woody I may have miss understood the question about SW2's. The S2 's released several years ago have 1 motor driving both trucks. The NW2's from what I understand have 2 motors. 1 per truck. But will know for sure when mine arrives next week.
The new NW2 has one big motor (horizontal) driving both the front and rear trucks… like the brass manufactures have been using. I have not seen the new NW2 run yet, but if it is anywhere as smooth with the low speed performance of Lionel’s recent S2, then everyone should be happy.
Charlie
So, after returning my first O&W NW2 because it quit running after 10 minutes on the track, I now have my 2nd one. Both of them if you turn the sound way down make a werrrrrring noise. Sort of sounds like something is rubbing. And the smoke units on both seamed to be awful loud. And one end of one of my front coupler cut bar was cut off short.
Does anyone else have these issues?
Oh yes, ad I almost for got, I have seen the real 116 NW-2 in person, and the paint is too light. It looks like the engine saw a ghost and it went pale. Speaking of paint, I can't figure out for the life of me why on the front of the cab that Lionel painted the yellow strips and then painted over them with that light grey color, you can see that they strips were there. If you bought the O&W version, look at the front of the cab, the yellow strips are missing but you can see their outline. What the hell is up with that? And the front of the pilot should be painted Black, that is how it was in the 50's and today as well.
Because you can see into the cab easily because of all the windows, I would have like to have seen some engineer controls sitting in front of the figures.
As you can tell, I am not 100% happy with it.
It does sound great for a little engine, and it smokes very well, but If you have the MTH Railking version of the O&W NW2, I would keep it. I do not consider this Lionel version of the 116 to be an upgrade. It MTH version is not perfect, but neither is the Lionel Version. All of Lionel's design staff should be required I study the Photos of the engines in Morning Sun books before they go to production.
Thanks Charlie for the correction, just going by what I had heard. If it is the same as my S2, then yes I will be pleased. Tom 4 I will check mine for similar problems. Now if it will only get here. Waiting, Waiting, Waiting!
One more thing about all 3 of the NW-2. My first one, my second one and the one at the shop. All of them the wheels show signs of being run for a while, but the roller pick ups look brand new. Has any one else noticed this? Almost as if they were test run for a long period of time and then Lionel changed the roller pickups. And speaking of roller pick ups, the first NW-2 I took home 2 out of the 3 roller pick ups were so tight they were getting stuck in one position while rubbing on the center rail. I oiled the crap out of them and that helped a little, but they were still really tight.
I am waiting for my Spokane, Portland & Seattle version with anticipation. For the high prices we pay for these things, we have a right to also expect high quality when we get them.
My ATSF NW2 was just delivered. After it comes to room temperature, I hope to unpack it and get some pictures and maybe a quick video of it.
Nice, keep us posted!
Did anyone from @PATSTRAINS get there NW2? I ordered the NYO&W unit from them.
Like @Blue Streak, my NW2 arrived with a detached truck and drivetrain. Contacting Lionel regarding reattachment, no mention in the manual regarding it, so I'm not hopeful. Would have taken a single powered truck to avoid the QC issue.
Gorgeous model (inaccuracies aside), sorry for the few pictures. Frustrated with Big L on this one after redesign delay, hood slope inaccuracy for "tooling which will capture the many detail variations" and now QC.
These QC issues are out of hand.
Once again I'm expecting a brand new shipment from Lionel to have issues before I receive them.

I was hopeful after finding a YouTube video of a PRR version in action. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I'm not sure how the drivetrain joint you see in my last picture is connected to the smaller shaft on the truck (obscured by the truck). Maybe Blue Streak's and mine missed a part in assembly. @Dave Olson, care to clue us in, is it necessary for a RA?
Steve,
I talked to Ryan Kunkle today via email and sent him the pictures of mine. He thanked me for showing them to him so he could fix this on future runs. Does not help us now and the center of the truck is threaded for the bolt through the frame. However it sounds like you have to take a lot apart to get to it and suggested sending it back in. I'm getting a RA number tomorrow. It is a bummer.
