I am looking for nyc caboose decals appropriate for the 30’s/40’s and I have not been able to locate them. I did see lots of freight car decals sets, but uncertain of how the letters and NYC herald might scale when compared to the freight cars. Any ideas or locations I should be checking for these?
I am intending to strip the fantasy paint scheme caboose below and repaint brown and black.

Thats actually not a fantasy scheme, just not on the correct body, close though. Champ has made the decals you are looking for and they show up from time to time but you can use K4 40’ boxcar decals. If you do pre 1940 you only need small NYC and 19xxx in roman. If you do post 1940 you can add the herald and use gothic lettering. K4s are on the auction site now.
BTW the Pacemaker scheme is harder to come by. Maybe you can just trade someone for a brown MTH caboose.
