After seeing the success of their first H10 built in the Harmon shops the Central contacted West Albany for a second one. The boys at West Albany took a slightly different take on boiler design being a little smaller as it was intended more for helper service vs pulling long drags. Here is the result showing its first test run to make sure all appliances are working before heading over to the paint shops. Stay tuned for the details on the construction.

Rumor has it based on the success of this engine the Central has contacted an outside builder for 100 more for the parent company and few of its subs. Engineers are eagerly awaiting their arrival.

No need.  All you have to do is build one more.  For me.

I could be tempted with set of the Beauty Queens. 😉  The reality is with all the time invested in this I think only the last powerball winner could afford one and its still not finished.

Here are few pics taken during the build.

The material removed from the shell to fit over the Lionel chassis. I moved the smoke unit to the shell to avoid having to take out even more of the shell.

Snifter valves and lubricator added to the shell. Lubricator is Lionel that I thought was diecast. Turns out to be similar to lead and deforms easily. I will replace it with a brass item. Cylinders bored to accept the snifters, left and right.

USRA Front pilot replaced with one from a Lima Berkshire. Near identical to the version I am modeling. Working smokebox door hinges were used to replace one missing from the engine. They have since been soldered to the side of the smokebox.
