Someone on Facebook asked me to produce a photo of a hollow O27 track pin. They have never heard of such a thing. Back in the late seventies, I was buying O27 track. It had hollow pins. If I had a piece of it now I would produce the photo the gentleman asked for.
Anyone here have a piece of 027 track with hollow pins ?

Dan, I started out with 027 track and switches, but haven't dealt with it for over 20 years. My recollection is that 027 track pins were solid, not hollow, and substantially smaller than I Gsuge pins
I never had hollow 027 track pins, and never heard of them.

The hollow pins / rolled pins era was VERY short-lived, and is only found in the early MPC woodgrain tie track 1970-1971.
I have some kicking around here somewhere. It may be in the track box at work (where I have had to make some replacements on the layout I am setting up there).
well, I never bought any MPC woodgrain tie track, but I am 100% sure that I have/had some hollow pins. I know they were hollow because I landed up crushing a few before I learned to be more gentle.
I don't like to disagree with Rob because I've always found his info to be spot on, but I wanted to add my experiences in this case. My stuff is packed away so I can't easily get to it to search for any that I might have left.

Walt, the "woodgrain" is fairly subtle, you may have some and not know it.
sounds like I stand corrected. sorry about misleading anyone. Like I said, I've always found Rob's info spot on so once again he is!
based on a comment in this week's photo fun thread, apparently my first set was an MPC one so I guess that's where I got the hollow pins from. Rob your knowledge on so many topics is amazing!

Dan, I hope these pictures help you out, had these few in a plastic container in my work train. They bend and crush easily. My father used them when he was using Lionel 027 track, but like many modelers he switched to gargraves flex track and switches.

They're the guilty parties. Book 'em Danno ! Like your father, I too switched to margraves in the early '80s.
