These can be a total PITA to assemble and then get them to work smoothly. Long shaft bit to the bottom pivots off the far back hole on the main couple casting and should have a little "hook" to catch on the lower edge of a lip at the front of the arch that it passes through. Should be a screw to mount that together. Cleaning out the flash and groove at the the lower edge that lip at the front of the arch while not bending it out of plane is a challenge.  Hole in the end of the long shaft is where the coupler casting goes - you could put a modified Kadee coupler in there if desired. Rest of the little parts are for the coupler latch and knuckle. 

I did a few of these and stopped, and then went back to assembled Q-car couplers. Other option I've used is just a bit of good brass flat stock with a Kadee coupler mounted to it with that unit mounted with a screw to the body for a pivot point.

Thank you very much. I do have another coupler that could be installed in the pocket. I might go that route. I do not care that the unit operates. It is there to help fill in the space from the bottom of the car to the track.
