I was reading through a fun thread: “Why do you watch O Gauge Layout videos?” It occurred to me that I get similar pleasures watching old promotional railroad films from the 40’s and 50’s These are great pieces of Americana It’s the America i grew up in It’s not just the nostalgia of my youth, but they show a different America that was my country. These films extol the values of my America. They show hard working dedicated people with great ethics. They are patriotic. They show family values. They treat churches with respect. And, of course, they have some great railroad shots.
I get great solace from them. They take me back to a time when Americans respected each other, and we had a unified national identity.
Yes, I miss my youth, but I miss my America even more.
