And so it has begun.  I have all the parts I need to convert a couple of OMI SD70M-2's to DCC/Sound using the LokSound XL 4.0 Decoder.  Below are some initial photos of the disassembly of the locomotive body from the chassis. 4 total screws will separate the body from the chassis. I also removed the fuel tank assembly to gauge available space for speakers, etc... Found the weight is taking up most of the open part of the fuel tank.

I bought the same model Locksound decoder to put into a G gauge engine. I loved the sounds. I could not program it to run the large draw motors. I wish it had come preprogrammed to run it. It sounded the best that I've heard overall.

I look forward to hearing yours and hope all goes well. I think they are made well and I just couldn't get the system to change the variables to run the motors as needed. I added a NCE decoder to run the motors and kept it in for sounds only.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of smoke either.  I really only run it on a few locomotives at our shows.  The kids like it.

Serendipity!

I really like the LokSound XL4 series. I installed one in my Sunset GG1 and have a second waiting to go into a pair of Trainmasters (which will run as a pair).

One of its neatest features is the illumination of the headlights. Brightness come up slowly as in a real incandescent bulb, same for turning off.

Joe,

Yeah, all the recently recorded sounds are incredible!  I would agree in most cases are the best available, short of miniaturizing a 1:1 prototype!

Hmm.. I printed the manuals for the decoder and programmer, so I'll definitely be taking a look at everything the decoder can do!  Did you experiment with the servo outputs?  Was thinking it might be interesting to use them for spinning fan blades?

Yeah, that is a really great feature!

Here is a photo of the motor with the model number information on it...

Just curious, what is the model number on the Pittman motor on your loco?

Overland does make a simple but smooth powertrain that I wish Atlas would add to their other locos besides the SW's and MP15.
