I purchased a NIB lighthouse years ago and finally have a spot on the new layout for it. I opened it and powered up only to find that the LEDs in the rotating beacon do not come on. The beacon does rotate. The instruction manual states that the "LEDs located at the top of the tower have been designed to operate without replacement." If only. The LED is not available from Lionel. Has anyone replaced this LED and are there any alternative parts out there to fix this?

The LED's are available on Amazon or any electronics supply. Just do a search for 5mm LED's. They are like $6 for 100. That's the easy part. Looking at my light house I don't know how you would replace them. Did you check the wires to the LED's because it's unusual for both of them to go bad unless they are wired in series. Maybe an internal wire came loose.
