Newest one of two additions to my layout. This converted C-47 to DC-3 project represents a short line over-water passenger service which is an adjunct to my passenger rail service. It is in 1:48, or O scale. One more, a Beech Craft Model 18 in the same color scheme and airway will be added. It also will 1:48. These will both fly over my small 12'x10' layout.

Last I checked, there were something like 100,000 DC3/C47's still flying (with updated engines and electronics), there isn't anything better when you need a rugged plane that can land anywhere. They used to fly them on the Boston to Provincetown run out of Logan, I don't know if they still do (if they do, might just have to take a special trip..).

My favorite DC3 story was about the pilots on a small commercial carrier out in the midwest, who developed engine problems supposedly and ended up bailing out, then later on they got a call from an irate farmer telling them to get their #$&#*! plane out of his corn field, apparently it had landed itself (this was on a NOVA episode about the DC3)..don't know if it is true or not, but it is a great story.

Great work there Sam!  When you can, contact me via email.  I have some questions about your aircraft.
