I have put together building kits before but never made out of resin (light tan color) or used acrylic (brush on) paints. Here are my questions:

After washing all the resin parts do I need to prime parts before painting with acrylic?

I am going to use brush (very small rustic log cabin) do I thin paint first?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Steve,

I have made and painted my own resin castings as well as many resin kits, though never one of a log cabin. After cleaning the castings i have always used a base coat of either primer, or my prefered base color for the casting i'll be painting. I have found krylon fusion spray paint (made for plastics) to work very well. It has been my experience that waiting a good 24-48 hrs to let the base coat 'cure' is a good idea.

I have always used ceramcoat acrylics with no issues. I usually dry brush the casting to get the look i want, but have at times painted the whole casting wet. The paint adheres with no issues.

I hope this is helpful. I'm sure others will add better tips. Post pics when you're done!

Wash your buildings with soap and water and let it dry or make sure it's dry with paper towels this gets any of the release agent from the casting molds off.

I shoot my buildings with red oxide primer before I try to paint them the acrylics don't do good on bare plastic but onced primed they do fine.

I use the acrylics full strength just squeeze a little out on a piece of card board a little goes a long way.

After your building is primed you can spray it any color you like. I like some of the textured sprays and it gives my buildings a nice brown brick affect.

Hope this helps
