Pilot / step location on new Lionel GP-30 ???

The front steps / pilot appear to be set back under the frame / platform on some of the recently released GP-30’s - is this by design ?

Not sure if this has something to do with being able to install scale couplers etc ? - can you move the pilot forward ?

Online photos of some models show the steps and platform lined up perfectly - others have the steps set back considerably

Not a criticism just a curious observation - most online reviews are really favorable / everyone seems to like them 👍🏼

I have a Legacy GP30 from the original run. My steps were not in alignment either. I looked at each truck and the pilots were spaced differently on each truck. I switched the trucks around and everything was perfect. There definitely is a front truck and a rear truck. Obviously they were mounted incorrectly at the factory.

If these use the same two-axle trucks Lionel has been using for a while, you should be able to see two sets of mounting holes on the underside of the trucks for the pilot to connect to. I believe the front pilot should be on the outer mounting holes and the rear should be on the inner mounting holes to line-up on the GP30.
