Plaster cloth down, now what?

I use sculptamold or straight plaster. Just mix some up and spread thinly over the mesh. 

I have always mixed the amount of structolite that I needed and covered the plaster cloth with that. It has a slower drying time and allows you to work without having to really hurry before it sets.

Boy, I'm glad I read this. I thought the plaster cloth was the final step before ground cover.

I use an earth tone color paint.  I also added a bit more detail with the plaster cloth bunch and applied at random to show some detail.

I would use scultamold and add some brown paint while your mixing a batch up. it prevents white chips from showing thru is you so happen to bump it.

 

Btw buy the acrylic paint at Michaels or something similar.  Only cost a few bucks. A couple of squirts from the bottle and your ready to go.

What building kit is that or is it custom built?  thanks

I have been thinking of trying platercloth. I have only worked with foam so far.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. May have to borrow your ideas.

 

For general ground cover over plaster cloth I use Structolite or Gypsolite.  Good texture, inexpensive, easy to work.  For cast or carved rock I use molding plaster.

Mr JD.Here is what I do.(Im in the residential construction trades)Go to HD or Lowes and buy a 20lbs bag of Durabond 45.It will cost you 10 bucks.Mix it on the loose side.Apply it with a 4 in brush.If smaller area use a 3 or 2in.You have a 30 min working time.It will dry solid like plaster and will not crack(even if you apply it 3in thick).You can even sand it if you like.I know guys on here prefer materials meant specific for hobbys.But this is better and in 1/3 the cost good luck.Nick

If you can find it at your Home Depot, the structolite is a 50 pound bag for $11.20. As others have said, gypsolite is another similar product with probably a similar price. Not all stores carry either though.

I filled in any holes with lightweight spackle, and then tinted the whole thing with different shades of "Woodland Scenics liquid pigment" diluted with water to give the shades I wanted.It comes in various earth tones and absorbs into the plaster leaving a nice weatherd flat finish. Then added groundcover.
