By far the largest variety of On30 is produced by Bachmann in their Spectrum line.  Most locomotives they produce today are DCC equipped (DCC already installed) or DCC ready (plug-in).  You can get a large variety of motive power in the under-$300 price range.  Shop around a bit:  Trainworld, Micro-Mark, The Favorite Spot, Star Hobby, and a number of others.

I"ll second Allan's recommendations.

By the way:  Be sure to check out the Feb. 2014 issue of OGR and you'll see what can be accomplished in On30 with some of the Bachmann product and in a very limited amount of space.  I believe you and others will be inspired by what you see.

Also, be sure to check out Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette if you haven't already done so to see what is being accomplished in the world of narrow gauge and to see ads relating to other fine products that are available.

I will 4th Allan's suggestions on the vendors for Bachmann On30 products. Over the years I have purchased from all the above. I would also like to point out that some of these vendors - "thefavoritespot" in particular, sells through eBay auctions as well as from their company website. With this practice, they are able to move the stock at even greater discounts to us.

You can even find On30 equipment like the Bachmann On30 Davenport side rod mechanical locos from various sources, where You won't find them in retail as they are discontinued and older but most often "new in box" and of course some pre-owned.

Last year I found a guy that had 3 Davenports for sale for less that $45 each and I scooped them up. One became a kit bash for my Diesel critter maintenance of way machine and another became part of a larger On30 Diesel loco, both of which are posted on my YouTube channel in video layout updates. The last one is sitting on a shelf in from of me waiting for disposition.

I know I am rambling here, but you can also find a host of folks on eBay that offer various Bachmann replacement parts and other items relating to On30. It's a great place to shop for kitbash items such as loco cabs, boilers and such.

I latched onto about five of the Davenport switchers when they were first released (different flavors) because I really have a fondness for the smallest of the small critters such as 0-4-0s, gas mechanicals, rail buses, etc.  Most of mine haven't even been run yet, aside from a brief test run when purchased, but I hope to remedy that situation in the near future.
