Powering a Lionel ASC2 for use with only Z1000 switch machines

My ASC2's and BPC2's are powered with an MTH Z1000 brick. It outputs 14VAC. Been working well for seven years.

My concern would be the regulation of the Amazon supply.  It's not designed for electronics, more like motors and LEDs that aren't voltage sensitive.  I'd want a regulated supply.

Completely agree, didn’t notice that till I had made the post.  Your opinion on something similar that’s well rated, or would you recommend an train accessory transformer as others have suggested.

I'd go the train accessory transformer route unless you feel comfortable evaluating the specs on non train items.  More experience on here too share to help you along as well.

Please. Be patient, I’m new with electronics but learning. If I opt too use an MTH Z500, 750 or 1000 do I need to use the MTH controller to make it regulated as dougklink mentioned or can I just cut the plug off the low voltage side and hook it right to my ASC2. Not sure about the output voltage of those MTH power supplies.

Oh and btw I have a Lionel ZW L , a postwar KW and ZW both updated, the ZW 250 W was done by Henning’s. Would it be more practical to use the updated postwar transformers and add voltmeters to monitor the voltage.

If you really want 12-14 VAC, you'll need to find a suitable variable transformer.  Many PW small transformers are available for peanuts.  It seems it's harder than I imagined to find a suitable AC-AC 12V power brick!

I have used a 12 volt AC power transformer like this one https://www.jameco.com/z/29225...29226.html?CID=MERCH with an inline fuse for many years to power my ASC's.  Never had any problems.

MTH Z500 brick seems to be the way to go. I’m a little confused, should I wire that right to my ASC2s or do I also need an MTH controller?
