I’m sure he has  Marty’s ear already, laughing, telling tales.

A memorial service will be held early In March. Will update when final details are made.

update 2/20/2022

Chuck “Trainpop”  Ambrogio is in hospice in Glen Burnie, MD.

The doctors give him days.

Please remember Chuck and his family in your prayers.

For those of you who are regulars at York, everyone who has ever stopped by Vince's Trains in the Orange Hall knows our resident story teller, and all around nice guy, Chuck, aka "Trainpop". Trainpop suffered a heart attack Sunday evening, complicated by pneumonia. He is currently hospitalized, conscious, and I'm sure entertaining the staff. Please say a prayer for the big guy, and lets hope we see him scooting around at York in October.

Follow up to follow when I know more.

7/15/21 8:30 PM

I talked with Trainpop tonight. He sounds good, and is in good spirits. I read your posts to him, and he was extremely touched by your comments and well wishes.

More tests tomorrow

A part of me left with Chuck today. We became friends about 20 years ago when I lived in MD and was just starting to do train shows. When business grew and I started doing York with Marty Bowersock of Ma and Pa Junction Chuck was the one who badgered the heck out of me to do it on my own. Well I did and Chuck was right there with me. Although old enough to be my father he always treated me like a brother. We could talk for hours over a few beers and a pan of lasagna. A few years later we expanded our York experience and brought in Jim Mason and what a trio we became. Every year we tried to outdo the previous. Yes sales were up and business was good but it goes so far beyond that. We made friends that will last a lifetime. We shared laughs and tears. I have had the honor to be friends with Lou Capone, Marty Fitzhenry, Kirke Mitchell and so many others who have one **** of a layout in heaven but Chuck was family. Real family. I miss you already big brother. And when I return to York we will have your chair sitting in the same place. RIP

The O Gauge model train world lost one of it's greatest supporters and I lost one of my best friends with the passing of Trainpop. We met through the OGR Forum and became great friends over the years. We went on Train Excursions to Western Maryland and every year visited the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore to see the model train layouts. We then visited the Wise Ave. Firehouse Christmas Garden to see their large, wonderful display.

We'd end up at Sabatino's Italian Restaurant in Little Italy in Baltimore for a "real" Italian dinner! Then we would walk to Vaccaro's Bakery for dessert. We did this for many years until Chuck's wife, Lolly, was unable to go as she was hospitalized and in a rehab facility for over a year.

Chuck, Jim Mason and myself would make the yearly pilgrimage to Patterson, NJ to visit with the New Jersey Hi-Railers. Chuck always enjoyed these trips and the Cracker Barrel for breakfast.

We will always cherish your memory and the good times we all enjoyed together. Let your memory be a source of peace and comfort to everyone who knew and loved you and may your memory always be a blessing.

Vince sorry for your loss.  Always enjoyed my dealings with you folks in The Orange Hall.  And of course condolences to Trainpop’s family.

Chuck enjoyed our yearly visits to Patterson, NJ to see the outstanding layouts on display at the NJHRs.

He knew so many people and it was a total social event for him. Our travel time passed so quickly with all of the anticipation of seeing the layout and his friends and just as fast on the return trip as he recapped his visit. More OGR Dinner Photos too! Good times!

Steve

That would be a nice tribute.

A memorial service was held for Chuck last weekend.

He was fondly remembered by family and friends. Many of pieces of things close to Chuck’s heart were on display. Notice the bottom left, and top right of the attached picture. You will all be forever in Trainpop’s heart.DA0B7517-EB54-40C5-8898-E42B43A71B7E
Chuck’s OGAUGE shirt, and October 21 Badge from the York he missed because of the illness that took him.
