I love the wording here and I totally agree.

Alan, you layout is so beautiful.  You do such a nice job of bringing all the scenes together.  These water scenes are wonderful to look at.  Love the tugs and the big ship is a beauty.

Terry....the water is actually shower door glass.  This is a technique that has been used for quite a while.  The first time I heard of it was many years ago when a famous HO modeler, John Allen, used it in a similar way.  More recently, Dennis Brennan has written about it in his book.  In my particular case, rather than painting the one side of the glass the color I want (the side that will face down), I found that the water looks a little deeper if you paint the surface upon which it will be placed.  So...the base is made of the smooth side of a sheet of Masonite painted the color I am trying to depict, then I lay the glass on top of the Masonite.

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks JP....I will post more pictures for you sometime today.  As far as real water....some folks actually use it on their layouts but it can cause problems over time.  The Lionel tugboats are not designed to be put in real water.  They are really nice models that come with sound effects, smoke, etc.

Alex...once again, thanks so much my friend!

Alan,

Great job on the layout.  It looks spectacular!!  It takes me back to my hometown, Chicago.  I see that you received the NYC tugboat from Bill.  I picked up the Santa Fe tugboat from him at a great price.  I couldn't pass it up.  You just about have the entire lineup, except for the Santa Fe if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Paul...!!!  First, thanks for the nice comments.  Also, thanks for trying to help in my quest for a N.Y.C. tug.  As it turned out, I guess I missed the one Bill had for sale but it worked out for the better anyway as Don (the guy that first responded to my thread) ended up having three tugs and made me a great price and even delivered them to a train show that was in our neck of the woods!!

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks Paul...and again, I appreciate you offering help while I was looking for a tugboat.

Pete...don't know if my layout is ready for a video...but thanks for the compliments.  Do you product DVDs??

rockstars1989....thank you!!  I am following your progress on the mill complex and you are inspiring me too!!

Cesar...I appreciate your nice comment!!  Your layout is wonderful!  By the way, I e-mailed you about our group...did you ever get it??

Thanks Alex...that tug seems to keep going toward the northeast for some reason....must have some kind of magnetic pull..??

Bill...thank you!...I can't take credit for the lighthouse.  It is a Lionel product and came painted that way.  It really adds to the harbor area.

Thank you so much Dewey....as always, your kind words are greatly appreciated.

Alan
