PS1 coal turbine upgrade to PS3

Hi all,

Looking at upgrading a PS1 coal turbine I have to PS3 and I have a few questions on how this would work:

1. I assume I'll need two kits and convert the A unit and the long B unit to separate PS3 units (similar to how the regular PS3 model is configured)

2. My further assumption is that I'd wire both the front protocoupler and the protocoupler on the tender to the front A unit, and leave the B unit protocouplers unwired. Would the B unit need resistors on the empty protocoupler jacks as specified in the instructions if leaving one protocoupler unconnected or since both are unconnected resistors would not be required.

3. How would I wire the two smoke units in the B unit?

Yes, the coal turbine requires two kits.

Yes, you will want to add the resistors to eliminate any issues with the coupler outputs.   You will actually wire the B-unit rear coupler through to the tender, there is no connection between the lead unit and the B-Unit.  When you configure the lash-up, the system will expect the rear coupler to be on the B-Unit.

Wire the two smoke units in parallel, the PS3 board will support two smoke units.

I have added a speaker to the B-unit to give it more robust sound, after all the sound capability was already there.

Thanks! That's a good idea about the speaker I think I'm gonna steal that

I'm assuming also both boards get the same chain/sound file from the PS3 version?
