I'm helping a friend with using PS3 and DCC. There's a lot of what appears to be conflicting information out there, even using MTH documentation.

My first question is that there are a number of different sound files, and apparently they have different functions available under DCC on different function keys.

Is there a way to determine the sound file number, or revision or something?

Thanks, Greg

the Decoder instruction manual for the locomotive should tell what each CV (configuration variable) on the decoder does.    In DCC the information available for use without downloading new stuff is on the decoder, not in the control system.

The basic control CVs are the same across all decoders.    When you get into fancy sound and light functions, then the each mfg might be doing something different with the CVs.

as for the throttle functions, generally the standard across all DCC systems is that 0 turns the headlights on and off, 1 does the bell,  2 is the horn.     Beyond that it may get unique.

There are several different files with different functions.

And what is published does not always work.

I have a PS3 manual, and it is a mess it says it is for a Dash 8, but lists steam functions too.

In any case, I have not found any documentation that matches how the locomotive actually works under DCC, this is the point.

In any case, is there any way to read the sound file version? DCS or DCC?

Greg
