I recently bought a used Lionel 6-28223 2005 BNSF SD70 Diesel Locomotive and whenever I power it up it ALWAYS starts in reverse.  I've tried to lock it into forward but as soon as you stop it and start it back up it goes in reverse.  It will go forward but you have to hit the direction button to get it to go forward.  It seems like it's reverse/neutral/forward no matter what I try.  I'm only using a CW-80 and my two other engines work just fine.  Anyone have any ideas on what might be happening?  Also, there is always a delay in it starting up, I usually have to set the throttle at about 50/60 before it takes off.  And I think one of the cab lights are out on it.  I took a few photos to show the light that is out I "think"   Thanks in advance!

You might have to get an official LIONEL wiring diagram to compare with what is inside.

Andrew

I thought about that and looked around but couldn't really find a wiring diagram.  It would seem kinda odd that it would be wired backwards wouldn't you think?  I found a wiring diagram for a SD80 but not the SD70

What, me worry?

Heh.... I'm ashamed to admit it but I did that try that

If you bought it used then it may have been run in TMCC. It may have been set up as the trailing engine of a consist.  in that service the engine has to be set to start in reverse. I have done that on one of my SD70ACe engines.  The only way to get it out of reverse is to do a reset on the engine. I think you can do that in conventional operation. Check the operations manual or go on line and load it up from Lionel.

If that fails, find a friend and reset it in TMCC mode.

Thanks for the tip I've been searching for those reset commands but I can't find anything.  I only have a CW-80 transformer so I've been looking for some kind of reset command sequence but no luck.  Not even sure there is one for this specific engine?  Thank you again for the advice I'll keep looking and see what I can find.
