Question about MTH & Lionel autoracks

Mikes train house made the shortie auto racks to cater to the people with smaller diameter curves on their layout.... while these look better on 072 and smaller curves, its my opinion that mikes made a huge mistake not making the scale length 89' cars... there is no prototype for the 18" mikes cars

Same for many of the "scale" heavyweight passenger coaches, which should be longer than 18 inches but were sized for relatively tight O gauge curves.

Autoracks, at least involving the prototype you ar referencing, are 89-foot cars.

Like many, for me the Lionel Scale versions are wonderful, and too big. The MTH product fits my planned layout. Same reason I won't buy 21 inch pass cars - they flat out need larger curves (072 or preferably larger) to look good.

As a big fan of P&W items, I had to pass on the Atlas 89' flat as well as the Lionel Autoracks.

I wish Lionel or MTH would make some nice auto racks that would work on O36 curves.  I see them all the time on the local track, but don't have the room for scale ones.  There are RailKing husky stacks, now make RailKing auto racks MTH!  I'd buy at least a dozen when 1st released.  And P&W would be a bonus!

I have mixed 10 Lionel and 10 MTH Autocarriers on the club layout ( Pandprr.com) and you could not tell they were different

I'd love to see a picture of that.  I have a MTH 18" next to a Linonel 24" and the difference is so obvious, so much to the point where I'm 95% decided that I'm going to sell off all my MTH carriers and go Lionel only.

I own both Lionel and MTH as well as the Atlas articulateds. My plan is to keep the Lionel and MTH away from each other in different trains. The Atlas seem to work well with either. I have too many MTH's to sell them off. Beside, I'm still having some minor clearance issues in a couple spots with the Lionel's.

I recently purchased two of Lionel's new Autoracks and I have 6 of MTH's.  While the MTH Autoracks are nice, Lionels have a lot more detail.  I like them both and aside from the difference in length and height you can only tell the difference in detail on close inspection.

I have had several guests comment that they must be different prototypes.  I like them both but run will run them seperatly when I get a couple more of Lionel's version.

I think the Lionel's are nicer by far. But I can't run them. Track is fine, but I have clearance issues with them.

Some manufacturer would have to produce 1/64th scale auto carriers for 1/64th scale autos and trucks. Then they can sell these auto carriers with either S gauge trucks or O gauge trucks, for people who have smaller radius track layouts.

I have several of the Lionel and love the size and the detail. The only problem I've had with them, is the couplers will open and disconnect for no reason what-so-ever. I resorted to using small rubber bands to keep them closed.

Thanks for all the information.  Since I don't have too many of either of these at the moment, I have decided to go full scale Lionel, as I just like the look of these better.  That said, you can find the 6 MTH autoracks I do have in the "for sale" section of the forum.
