Question about small layout powered by Lionel GW-180 transformer and TMCC loco in conventional mode

I want to run a TMCC diesel loco in conventional mode on a small 4x8 layout powered by a new Lionel 6-37947 GW-180 watt transformer/controller. I will not be using remote control TMCC or Legacy and no PowerMasters. Do I need anything special when connecting the GW-180 to the Fastrack to protect against power surges and frying the locomotive's circuitry, or does the circuit breaker in the GW-180 provide sufficient protection? Keeping it simple. Thanks for advice.

The GW-180 has two types of protection for over-current situations(electronic breaker and "fold-back" circuitry), but none for over-voltage to protect against voltage spikes or "power surges".

For that you need Transient Voltage Suppression.
