Some of the #1134 locomotives do not have traction tires. Does the MTH/Dorfan #1134 have them?
Thanks,
Scott Smith

Scott,
I check the "Features" listed online for all of MTH's 1134 locomotives, including both Ives and Dorfan locomotives and both "traditional" and "Proto-Sound" locomotives, and none of them indicated that they were equipped with "traction tires". Based on this research, I don't believe any of MTH's #1134 locomotives had traction tires so if you need them, you will need to modify your locomotive and add them.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply; My red MTH/Ives #1134 (National Limited) has them. I was hoping they added it to the later production runs.

Hi Scott,
I have two Dorfan 1134-type steamers (black and dark blue) and they both have traction tires. Sorry but I don’t have the item numbers handy.

John,
That was the answer I was looking for.

Scott,
Most interesting! I think it is highly likely that several of MTH's "contemporary powered" Dorfan and Ives #1134 engines have "traction tires" based on John's comments above and my own experience creating a "contemporary" powered version of the rare Ives Prosperity set.
For years I have owned a full seven car set of RichArt's reproduction Ives Prosperity cars including their unique full baggage, RPO. and REA cars. However, I didn't own one of RichArt's reproduction Prosperity locomotive. After years of looking for one, when a set of copper-plated #1134 locomotive/tender shells became available on ebay, I bought them in order to create my own version of a Prosperity locomotive. I then purchased a new black "Proto 3" MTH/Ives #1134 locomotive/tender and replaced its black shells with the copper-plated shells I had just purchased.
Wa La! A "contemporary" powered Ives Prosperity set with "seven" cars!
Interestingly, my new Proto 3 #1134 Ives engine also has "traction tires" but its online description does not mention them. Obviously, my original online research was flawed as I wrongly assumed MTH would mention "traction tires" as an important "feature" on their "contemporary" #1134 locomotives. Lesson learned. Don't trust MTH's online descriptions.

Between Flyer, Dorfan and Ives, I probably have 10 of them. I’m not going to dig them out, but I’d say about half do/don’t. All the P3’s do and most later P2’s do.
