A friend owns an MTH Railking Hudson. It runs well, smokes modestly, but has no sounds.  Taking off the tender shell reveals a speaker, circuit boards, and a device labeled "QSI".  Thus, this appears to be a proto-one model.  There is no apparent volume control on the bottom of the tender nor is there a battery or battery holder in the tender.  There is a tether that connects to the engine.  Clearly, there is supposed to be sound of some sort.  The only switch on the bottom of the tender is labeled "on-off".  Any instructions as to how to activate, the whistle, bell, chuff, etc. would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe Silien

What you may actually have VS what you think you have.

No battery, a speaker, no volume control, a simple On/OFF switch, and a board labeled QSI is most likely a QSI DCRU (DC Reverse Unit) and possibly given the speaker a digital whistle function board.

Actual MTH Digital Whistle PCB.

That is VERY different than a PS1 engine with battery and a double stack board set.

Example PS1 board stack set from this topic https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...2#161349519307454252

So if it is just the whistle board, you do not have chuffing or other engine sounds, no bell, and ONLY a whistle function and these boards are no longer available if yours is not working.
