I do not know of any glue that would work on your helicopter tail rotor.

If it were mine, I'd just leave it alone. I don't see a whole lot of difference between a damaged tail rotor and one that has been glued.

You might also use a reproduction tail rotor for display, and keep the damaged original with the helicopter.

For some reason I can not find what  type of plastic LIONEL used and or what that classification was  .. ONCE that is found finding a glue for it should be the cure (unless many failed lifts off )   which is not going to happen on my watch!

While it's hard to say exactly what sort of plastic your yellow helicopter is made from without destructive testing, the material specified for the earlier gray helicopters was Tenite.

There are several types of Tenite, all under the same family nam: acetate, butyrite, and propionate. It's used for everything from toothbrushes to appliance parts and rifle stocks. I'm nit sure which grades of resin are used in which application.

Tenite is an early plastic.

Unlike todays "engineering grade" fiber reinforced tough plastics, Tenite is a fairly brittle plastic.

It tends to chip, crack, and break, and once broken it doesn't glue well at all.

Acetate plastic can be glued though, just not with the cements we are used to using on styrene plastic. Revell and Monogram both produced their first plastic model kits in acetate, Revell marketing what they called "Revell Type A Cement", which was acetone based. In fact, acetone is the solvent for acetate plastic. However,while acetone will also dissolve styrene, it's the dissimilar molecular structures that prevent acetate and styrene from bonding with any strength with the use of solvent-based cements.

I agree with CW: Leave it as it is and avoid further damage.

I called J-B weld Company and their techs new the material  Tenite and  Acetate plastics they said they have a product that will work its called:

Plastic Bonder Syringe

they say its is a quick-setting, two-part, urethane adhesive system that provides strong and lasting repairs and works on thermoset, carbon fiber composites, thermoplastics

I have two helicopter one real bad I will try on first if all is good I use it on the good one. time will tell Thank-YOU  DANiel

Even with the correct glue, I think you are going to have a challenge gluing the broken rotor due to the small area available to which you can apply the glue.
Please let us know how it works out.

Regarding my earlier comment: I don't think the yellow helicopter  has the tail rotor cast as a separate part.

Try Alenee's  7800 all purpose adhesive.  A clear glue that sticks to most things.  It it does not work it is easy to rub off.  Alenee's will probably hold for a shelf queen and break off if flown but can be re glued.

Here are some Pictures I took before and after  I was lucky to have the "original " tail to put back on !  I went and got some Aleene's jewelry and Metal  glue its was thicker and I put glue on both sides smeared on and held together tightly!

I put it on a temporary shelf for  this queen  shelf piece  

Time will tell how it holds up ..Daniel
