rediscovered model trains  and am getting the bug... We have bought 3 rtr sets over the last 3 years:

1)  Lionel Pennsylvania RR Keystone special (Die cast 0-8-0  track voltage)

2)  Railking  BNSF freight hauler                (SD70ace   dcs  remote commander)

3)  Lionel  Polar Express                            (2-8-4 locomotive  lion chief remote)

I like the features of the DCS remote control system and will soon purchase one... My question is: 1)  will I be able to run the Polar Express locomotive with the DCS remote?  and  2) what features will I have, running the Lionel 0-8-0 ?

gunrunnerjohn,

Seems BigDaddy is new to DCS, long ago I doubted some of the new technology also.

BigDaddy,

What you need to do is purchase both Barry's book The DCS O Guage Companion and the OGR Video Guide to DCS to help you understand a lot more about DCS before you build your DCS layout.  Lots of great guidance/education in both these formats.  The upgrading of a conventional to a P2 or P3 engine will mean more to you then, things will become a lot more feasable with a little further knowledge.
