You can only run the Lionchief locomotive with the included remote.  That includes any other remove from Lionel or MTH.

You can use all the features of the 0-8-0 conventional locomotive, you have a whistle and bell button when running conventional on either of the variable voltage TIU outputs.

Yes, You need to install a PS-2 upgrade kit.  Requirements are a DC motor with a fly wheel.  G

   Seems BigDaddy is new to DCS, long ago I doubted some of the new technology also.

   What you need to do is purchase both Barry's book The DCS O Guage Companion and the OGR Video Guide to DCS to help you understand a lot more about DCS before you build your DCS layout.  Lots of great guidance/education in both these formats.  The upgrading of a conventional to a P2 or P3 engine will mean more to you then, things will become a lot more feasable with a little further knowledge.
