Today I received MTH's new PremierLine 20-20838-1 Rocky Mountaineer GP40 #8019.  As you can expect from my forum screen name, this loco's road-name is very near and dear to my heart.    Here's a quick iPhone photo...

Please excuse the poor kitchen lighting.  I no longer have the wall shelves mounted in my train room (where there's much better lighting), as that room is going through a huge transition right now in preparation for a new layout.  (More about that at a later time.)  But hopefully the above photo does the loco's paint scheme some level of justice.  It's a real eye-catching paint scheme, IMHO.

Now HERE's the real question:  What are the chances that MTH will announce a Rocky Mountaineer PremierLine train set with another GP-40 locomotive along with a string of bi-level cars in a matching paint scheme -- perhaps even in the next MTH catalog?  Wouldn't THAT be cool?  Since MTH appears to have had sufficient interest to produce this locomotive in its own right, I gotta believe they'd follow up with more Rocky Mountaineer products.  Right???    I mean really... what would be the point of offering an admittedly niche road-name just as a locomotive -- without the cars to make the entire train?  And in real-life, there are often TWO locomotives heading up the train -- and sometimes three, because the train heads out of Vancouver... and then at Kamloops some cars go North to Jaspar, while others head east to Banff and Calgary.

Note:  I found it a bit interesting that this ala-carte locomotive was delivered with road # 8019.  Yet if you look very closely at the image of this loco on MTH's website, it shows #8016.    Could this be a hint that another GP-40 will be announced either as another ala-carte offering?  Or perhaps -- even better yet -- as part of an entire Rocky Mountaineer passenger set? 

If I'm not mistaken, MTH usually releases a new catalog around York, correct?  So that would be their 2018 Volume 1 catalog.  Has anybody heard anything about this yet with York being just 2 weeks away?  Hopefully, some very exciting times ahead in MTH-land for Rocky Mountaineer fans.    Let's hope MTH won't make us wait too long!!!

I'd like to see some single-level RM cars, too, as that's what my wife and I rode in last year.  We had two GP-40's on the Vancouver to Kamloops combined train.  I didn't catch their cab numbers.  Then the following day we had GP-40's number 8013 & 8014 on the Kamloops to Jasper section.  And there were also 2 engines on the Kamloops to Banff section.

Do you know about the railroad? Where is their headquarters and service facility located?

Try this link for the history of the Colorado Railcar Company now out of business. The Rocky Mountaineer cars should be listed there. Several years ago I rode on one of their ultradomes between Danali and Whittier, Alaska. An absolutely outstanding car.

Attached is a pdf file with a scan of the article "Rocky Mountaineer Rail Equipment" from the RM on-board newspaper "Mile Post".  It gives some info on the history of the engines and the passenger car equipment for which you were asking and it says that those bi-level cars were made by CRM.

Also attached are a few photos I took when my wife and I rode the train last year. 

The first photo is the interior of the RM Vancouver station.  We were the first passengers to arrive there at 6:00 AM that's why it is empty.  Although it is near the Vancouver Pacific Central Station which VIA Rail and Amtrak use, it is a completely separate facility owned by RM.

We rode in a “SilverLeaf" single-dome car shown in the 2nd photo but we still had an excellent view of the scenery through the side windows which wrap around almost to the top of the roof as shown in the 3rd photo.

The next photo shows our train passing under the CN bridge across the Fraser River at Cisco's Crossing.  We had just crossed over the CP bridge from the West side of the river to the east side.

The next photo was taken at the end of the trip in Jasper and shows the two rebuilt GP-40's (cab #8013 & 8014) which had pulled us on the second day from Kamloops.  The last photo is the nameplate on one of the engines.

The original superdomes came from Milwaukee Road cars. CRM acquired those and refurbished and customized them. Now they are UltraDomes. There is a thread where someone is creating the top for original superdome car models. That top would certainly make it a lot easier to create the Alaska RR and the Rocky Mountaineer cars.

Thank you for that article confirming the manufacturer for the RM cars. These are truly unique cars and are well suited for the views in Canada and Alaska.
