Any times on removing the lettering only on a Weaver RPO car. I just purchased one from a forum member that I want to remove the road name only and apply my own custom decal. I have done this before on black steam locomotives and have done total repaints on passenger cars but this is already in the exact color I want and I want to keep all the rest of the lettering.
I do have some of weavers own ELO easy off but have yet to try it.

Use the easy off. Just go slow. I put some on with a brush and slowly rub the area with the same brush. Don't let it sit very long. It's the best stuff to use. Some lettering comes off in seconds, others take longer. Good luck. Don

Have u used the easy off on MTH lettering also? I have a MTH car I would like to do the same with.
So I tried the ELO on the car with no effect at all!
ELO is not the Weaver product - I think it is made by Testors, but I'm not sure. The Weaver/Scalecoat product is called Wash Away. It is stronger than ELO, at least in my limited experience with both products. I have used Wash Away on MTH lettering and it worked, but you need to work very carefully, with a light touch, to avoid damaging the underlying paint. At a minimum you will likely have to airbrush some clear coat over the affected area before you reletter. Fortunately I was working on a woodside car painted boxcar red, so my minor boo-boos were easy to touch up without being noticeable.
