This is my first post on OGR. While cleaning my 1950's oil derrick I seemed to have disconnected the chain connecting the pivoting beam to what I'll call the plunger that pulls it down. It is broken off at the plunger end. It looks to me that the plunger is to go thru the base with the hollow end up and somehow the chain was attached. There are two small indents on the plunger on either side near the top which I am guessing has something to do with attachment. I do not see signs of a broken solder joint. Is there a clip or part I have lost? I do not recall what it looked like before I broke it.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks to any suggestions.

Here's the service manual for the Lionel 455 Oil Derrick. Hope that helps.

thanks for the manual. To me its still not clear what holds the chain into the return rod. Maybe it is pressed fit?. The "cap" shown holds the other end of the chain to the plastic beam.

On researching more there may be places I can buy the chain assembly but it appears not at Lionel.

Try contacting The Train Tender (jeff@ttender.com). He has a great inventory of PW parts and should be able to fix you up with what you need.

Here's the page on his website that has parts for the 455: http://www.ttender.com/list/num3.htm
