Freightsounds tanker quit making sounds last evening. I found the white wire was disconnected from the plug. From the photos the plug goes into the small sensor board receptacle. Does anyone know which of the three spots on the plug the white wire should be connected to?

I know that is the question you asked where the white wire goes, but guess what? There's a bigger problem- where are the OTHER 2 wires that plug into that hall effect sensor socket??? That sensor needs power and ground- regulated DC power, not track power.

The harness is not available https://www.lionelsupport.com/...DS-48-30K-TANK-CAR-3

And we can also know the pinout of the Railsounds Lite board we think that white wire would go to "PGD". In theory, then they also might have used 3V3 and GND from that same connector to power and sense the hall effect.

Also, we gather the same info because this is how the ERR Railsounds lite works for direct chuff.

Sometimes, a guess is wrong (one were and what it was wired to inside the car). So I took apart one of my recent Visionline Santa Fe Stock cars 2026820

Anyway, I've got a picture of the connector at the sensor. It's not the same wheel truck but similar sensor.

Bare connector unplugged

Your connector picture for reference- and that seems opposite the one I'm looking at.

Then I unbundled the wiring harness to validate, the wires from the sensor go directly to the radio receiver- not the railsounds as I first might have predicted.

FWIW, top picture is my sensor showing wire colors from the recent Visionline Santa Fe Stock cars 2026820

Your sensor as taken from Lionel Parts link for your car. Both appear to be "E323292"

And thus my connector

And then your connector- so in theory, then your white wire is the far right location where there is no crimp inside the connector.

The wires are crimped into tiny metal connectors that are inside the white plug now. They can be removed by lifting the 3 bars that lock them in. They are not easy to rewire. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could try soldering the bare wire ends to the connectors after they are removed and clip them back in. Otherwise you need to order a new harness from Lionel.
