Freightsounds tanker quit making sounds last evening. I found the white wire was disconnected from the plug. From the photos the plug goes into the small sensor board receptacle. Does anyone know which of the three spots on the plug the white wire should be connected to?

The plug only goes back in one way, there are orientation tabs to prevent it from going in backwards. So figure out which way the plug plugs in and you've got your answer.
Thank you, but I’m not sure how that will help me determine where the white wire is supposed to be attached to the plug. There are three spots on the plug that could hold the white wire. Sorry for my ignorance in advance
The one that still has the crimp terminal that used to be on the wire would be my first guess.

I know that is the question you asked where the white wire goes, but guess what? There's a bigger problem- where are the OTHER 2 wires that plug into that hall effect sensor socket??? That sensor needs power and ground- regulated DC power, not track power.
The harness is not available https://www.lionelsupport.com/...DS-48-30K-TANK-CAR-3
And we can also know the pinout of the Railsounds Lite board we think that white wire would go to "PGD". In theory, then they also might have used 3V3 and GND from that same connector to power and sense the hall effect.

Also, we gather the same info because this is how the ERR Railsounds lite works for direct chuff.

Sometimes, a guess is wrong (one were and what it was wired to inside the car). So I took apart one of my recent Visionline Santa Fe Stock cars 2026820
Anyway, I've got a picture of the connector at the sensor. It's not the same wheel truck but similar sensor.
Bare connector unplugged
Your connector picture for reference- and that seems opposite the one I'm looking at.
Then I unbundled the wiring harness to validate, the wires from the sensor go directly to the radio receiver- not the railsounds as I first might have predicted.

Again, sorry, I'm trying to get you the right info. I just don't have one of those exact tanks cars.
The other thing is, I do know where should be 3 wires, not just the white wire for a hall sensor PCB to work. It must have power, ground, and then the signal out.
Looking for more example sound cars around the house that might be a similar wiring.
Vernon Barry...I cant thank you enough for going over and above to help me. I'm a newbie. Would never have know tow other wires went to that plug. I dont see any others disconnected but will recheck after work. I agree with you, it sure makes sense for there to be three wires in the plug. Thank you for you work so far!
FWIW, top picture is my sensor showing wire colors from the recent Visionline Santa Fe Stock cars 2026820
Your sensor as taken from Lionel Parts link for your car. Both appear to be "E323292"
And thus my connector
And then your connector- so in theory, then your white wire is the far right location where there is no crimp inside the connector.

Can you take a picture of the boards inside your car? maybe we can ensure wire position and colors match.
I will take photos of all boards inside the tanker when i get home and post. Thank you again. Cant wait to look inside that thing again this evening.
FWIW, found another document that explained the wiring and may be a huge help by @Bruk https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...%20and%20Pinouts.pdf

Ok, here are the boards. And I found the other two unattached wires after a little prodding. So I need to be sure where to put each wire in the plug. Also, what is the best way to reattach to this type of plug?? Thank you for all your help.

The wires are crimped into tiny metal connectors that are inside the white plug now. They can be removed by lifting the 3 bars that lock them in. They are not easy to rewire. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could try soldering the bare wire ends to the connectors after they are removed and clip them back in. Otherwise you need to order a new harness from Lionel.
Iguanaman3…….it doesn’t appear that I can reuse this harness. Do you know what the harness is called or a part number that I can order from Lionel? Thanks
Vernon Barry…..none of those pins are in stock. Thank you for the link. I’m gonna try to one a new harness. Can’t thank you enough for your help. I’m gonna get this car back on the layout!
Google JST-ZH 3pin 1.5mm pitch. You will find pre-crimped and wired connectors. Then just splice into your existing wires. I find that easier than trying to crimp my own pins.
Also, sorry, if the harness was directly available from Lionel I would have linked it. They often do not list complete harnesses.
