New to DCS, please forgive the simple questions...

I'm going to be setting up my holiday layout soon using two Standard Gauge tinplate trains, both with PS2. I haven't bought into a full DCS system yet and will pick one up from a local shop this weekend, but want to make sure I don't miss anything. I know I need at least the big DCS remote and a Track Interface Unit. Beyond that package, are there any other bits and bobs I'll need?

It looks like the Remote/TIU package doesn't include a power supply. Is that correct? Given that I'm only running two trains (a small steamer and a trolley), will the power supply from my old set be sufficient? (It's packed away downstairs and I don't remember the exact wattage, but I can check if necessary - it's a fairly recent MTH tinplate starter set.)

How does the TIU actually connect to the track, particularly standard gauge track? Are there any other lockons or similar wiring bits that I'll need to purchase separately? The shop near me doesn't really do any standard gauge, so I might need to order anything unusual separately.

Any other miscellaneous parts I should add to the list?

Thanks!

Todd,

First of all let me say that you will love running your standard gauge with DCS.

You will need a barrel jack adaptor to plug your brick (power) into the TIU.

The power from the track just comes from the output side of the TIU.

The setup is very simple.

Your shop should help you with it.

Good luck and enjoy!

Dave
