Can anyone give me some resources on how, generally, yards operate? I would like to incorporate an 8-track yard with a Ross four-way yard switch and additional switches to make it an 8-track. However, I don't know exactly how yards operate!

I have been looking in general how to best model this and researching yard operations, but OGR Forum has so much more experience in the little intricate details of a layout so I thought I'd ask. Trying my best to incorporate it on a reasonable sized layout with some limitations on length.

Overall, how would you turn the Ross 8-track yard into a more prototypical operation?

Layout (mainlines are all upper level. Yard will be front and center somewhere on the lower level

They won't "come together", each of the two lead tracks will feed one of the 4-way switches.  I haven't drawn the yard yet as I want to get the main layout up and running first, then I'll add the yard.  I'm just running the stubs out to the table edge for now.  I actually do have the 4-way switches, I found them on OGR.

Hi John, can you show a diagram or picture of how the two lead tracks come together at two 4 way switches?

Thank you John,

Paul

With a couple of Double Slips. ?? a couple of 105's ??.  Gargraves track.  Pictured is a Curtis Ross yard throat.  Fort Pitt Highrailers yard module throat.  4' X 6'.  There are two additional 4' X 6' yard modules, Total 18' X 4' Yard.

So this is what I have so far. Not sure if I should curve the yard and A/D tracks to use the rest of the table and make it longer. Might not be a good use of table space if I try to get some industry as well.

Any pointers?

What's the point of the DS switches?  That were you trying to accomplish there?
