I was thinking about picking up one of the Grey water tenders for my Greyhound Lionmaster Challenger, and I'm curious to know if they will look out of place or too large since both the TMCC and the Legacy one are scale size tenders.

Let me know your thoughts or if you already have this setup some images would be cool.

Thank you

Matt

Hey BNSF-MATT,

Gd Morning, I purchased just in a nick of time 2 Water tenders for my Lionmaster Challenger and Big Boy and when I had them on the track they fit in perfectly with the locomotives, but I purchased the BLACK ones to go with the Lionmasters not the Yellow one.  Somehow the yellow ones didn't appeal to my artistic way of coordinating color schemes so I went with the Blacks to fit in color wise with the other tenders.  Sorry I can't send pics now because I had to box everything all up in preparation for the construction of my basement for my layout.

I'm looking for some as well with Lionmasters in mind. Now that I have finished hunting Diesels for a while.

I see what he is referring to , but the yellow certainly don't help blend it in to look more eye pleasing.

I did  a search on MTH water tender and came up with a bunch on their site. Didn't see any of the  gray and seems like no recent UP . Either MTH premium or Rail King.

But I didn't spend much time on it. Sure there is many more out there.

Hi Larry, I did find the RK gray one on the MTH website - 30-79305. The only problem is I would rather have a command controlled one.

I'm going to take my current Tender and bring to my hobby shop this afternoon and compare it to the gray scale one they have in stock. I agree with you that the yellow makes it stand out, as I prefer the gray one.

Thank you

Matt

I also have one of the RailKing water tenders behind a LM Challenger, and it sizes up perfectly. The tender is yellow, but it seems it would be very simple to paint it black, if someone wanted it to. There really isn't anything that even needs to be masked off. Just spray it and decal it. The silver trucks would have to be painted as well, of course. I'm pulling UP yellow passenger cars with silver trucks behind my Challenger, so the RK yellow tender with its silver trucks fits perfectly in this consist.

Not on the topic of size, but just as an aside, one thing I found remarkable is that the yellow paint on the Lionel passenger cars I'm using (these cars are some of the 15" aluminum highly detailed cars Lionel did with diecast sprung trucks, finished and painted interiors with figures, add-on roof vents and antennas, grab irons, etc. that originally came with the Anniversary set headed up by scale ALco PAs) and the yellow paint on this RK tender, match perfectly.

Yellows are hard to match anyway (there are an enormous number of different shades of yellow), and to have the shade of yellow paint from two different manufacturers match exactly is almost a one-in-a-million thing. I know of other UP yellows from MTH that are different, so it was quite amazing to see this perfect match. Almost weird.

This color match issue brings up one other point, this with the grey painted version of the RailKing UP tender, and whether the grey paint on the RK would match the grey on the LionMaster tender. If they don't match, running them next to each other may not have a very good appearance.
