Big news in Scranton, PA is that the Electric City Trolley Station & Museum will host a press event tomorrow, May 1 at 1:00. The public is invited, and there will be some refreshments available. This will kick off the fundraising effort and report on progress of the restoration of Scranton Transit car no. 505.  This was a rather modern street car for the city, and is one of two remaining from the system.  The other is wooden car 324.  There is also a snow sweeper car, but I digress.  Here is a link to view a similar car: http://cc.owu.edu/~rdfusch/scranton_1953.jpg

This coming Friday, there is a fundraising event at the Trolley Museum after hours.  A cocktail reception, $25 per attendee, will highlight the restoration effort.

I'm not expecting everyone to drop their plans and head to Scranton, but mainly keep you informed.

Hi Earl!!!  Good to see you on the board!  Due to the positioning of the podium, my photos weren't so great, but here are a few to help spread the word.

The program booklet debuts the fundraising symbol.  Only about 25 or so ElectroMobiles were constructed in Worcester, MA by Osgood Bradley.

Scranton's claim to fame.

Dominick Keating served as master of ceremonies.  The car next to him is completely different from 505.  It is a Birney car no 506 from Reading Street Railways.

During the program, we were led in singing "the Trolley Song"

A new exhibit was unveiled after the speeches. This street car seat and the painting of the electroliners dating to the 1950s.

Once again, the windows kept me from getting a good photo.

This old farebox acts as the donation box for the car's restoration.  I heard it would cost $350,000 to restore 505.
