It's really as simple as this, and the components are dirt cheap.  For better flicker resistance, just use a larger value capacitor.  This configuration includes a choke for DCS compatibly as well.  IMO, there's very little reason to spend more than around $3 a car for LED lighting.  You can see the even result in the last picture. 

 

This 15" car uses 20ma for the whole LED string.
