Smoke elements are powered even with locomotive powered off

I have a Railking 30-1490-1 Empire State Express that has developed problems. The smoke unit elements power up as soon as I put power to the track (the locomotive is still OFF! The fan motor only runs when it's powered on throught the "smoke" button, like it should. Also the headlight bulb & boiler bulb won't work (the bulbs are GOOD). All the rest of the functions + sounds work like they're suppose to. I've tried to trace out a schematic wiring diagram I downloaded, but it doesn't have the color coding for the wire. I'm thinking there is probably an issue with the electronics in the tender, but I'm at loss to where to go next. Any help/suggestions are appreciated!

Hi you can try a conventional reset after you try a feature reset , sometimes it will correct the features that are not working! Alan

It,s , not uncommon to have to do a feature reset to restore features on ps 2 3-volt boards otherwise you could some FET transistors that are shorted which would make smoke stay on and open fets which could be why your lights don't work, board can be repaired'1

Sounds like the smoke FET is shorted, or perhaps one of the smoke leads is shorted to ground.

Alan & John, thanks for the input. I'm tied up on a job and it will be a couple of days before I can get into the locomotive. I've already tried the resets....NG. I'll get back to you guys as soon as I can.

Got a chance to go through the wiring on my locomotive and tender today, nothing shorted out. It's probably a shorted FET as you guys suspected. I'm not familiar with FETs. I've worked on replacing TVS in several TIU successfully. Al/John, I guess they're located on the PS2 board(s). Can I test them while ther're still on the board? It would help to have a picture of where they are on the board.
