Hello all, I recently purchased a m t h gp38 - 2, the smoke holes are different than anything else I have experience with. There are two small fill holes on either side of molded top fan. The manual only mentions filling through the back one but doesn't specify that you cannot use the other one, I assume they both go to the same place.  My main question is when I looked down into both of these holes just past the molded plastic shell I see what looks like a very thin black sheeting that partially obstructing the holes, more so on my back one. Is this normal? My concern was that every time I'm dropping smoke fluid in,  that quite a lot of it is hitting the top of that little black sheet / obstruction and I'm not sure if it's wandering to somewhere it shouldn't, appreciate any input from people who have this type.

Hi There

Did you buy the engine new or used ?

If used , You should open the shell to see if the smoke unit is still there .

Sometimes the original owner will buy peter to use on paul !

Example  : i found a used engine at at a hobby shop & the smoke unit was pulled. the switch was still there .

the black piece in the picture was gone .  The original owner put black plastic inside the shell to cover the holes .

Sad , because I wanted the engine , I wanted a smoke unit in it !  I passed this engine by .

The back one is directly over the smoke unit, so I always use that one. There is a trough to the front. The slot is to even the smoke plume so it all doesn't come out the first one. I use a syringe to avoid spilling fluid. I have a GP40 and GP20 that have grills on the stack; they are almost impossible to fill with a dropper, so I have the syringe for them.
