Actually, MTH resistors are 16 ohms, and they use two of them in parallel in the full sized smoke units.  Obviously, they use a regulator circuit to control them.

A cheap way to get perfectly usable smoke resistors is to buy 5W square ceramic wire wound resistors in the correct value.  You can simply crack the outside case in a vice an out comes a perfect smoke resistor, very quick and easy.

John, where can I find the resistors, Digikey wants to sell minimum of 3000.
