To the best of my knowledge, Lionel is the only one that made a repro of the 840 with dual smoke units, which were mounted in the base of the removable smokestack assembly.

FYI: Lionel also made the following changes to their reissued 840:

NO removable skylights

NO knife switches

Translucent window material added to all windows, doors, and skylights.

Interior lighting

NOTE: Smoke units could be deactivated with a strip of electrical tape across the contacts.

I have the Lionel version with the smoke unit and I have to say it's not a real show stopper. The smoke comes out OK but you have to look to see it kind of wispy at best. The lighting get's drowned out easily with bright lights in the train room. I would not consider either of what I mentioned a deal breaker it is a gorges piece and with Lionel Corp. canceling any new ones to be made in the near future if you find one grab it!
