Seems like all I can find are clear gloss or dull coat. I'm trying to get a satin finish on some passenger cars.
Anyone use a clear satin or matte spray product on your rolling stock?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can get Krylon spray in satin but be careful because it will attack some model paints. I use a mix of my own made by mixing Testors Glosscote, Dullcote and laquer thinner 1/1/1.

Rockyroad,
Try Hobby Lobby. I found both located with the art supplies not with the regular paint. I have a hard time finding the clear gloss. (go figure )
Hmmm...
I'm standing here holding a can of Testors Modelmaster Semi-gloss overcoat, p/n 1959. We (LHS) stock it regularly. It's very popular among model railroad folks, especially. It is, indeed, a better compromise between gloss and dullcoat, IMHO.
In fact this can seems a bit light of weight....need to get another one on Monday when at the store!
Re Krylon being aggressive to some paints.... I've heard the same, but I have yet to experience it. Since we're talking about what is typically the last applied finish coat after all the painting, lettering, etc....read: hours of heart, soul, and hard work!!...has been done, it would, indeed, be prudent to try the spray on another more disposable item having the same base coats/process. Then, a notebook with a few notes documenting results would save time down the road should you need to repeat the effort....a tip from someone for whom the years are inhibiting total recall!!
Hey, FWIW, always...

I use Krylon matte finish to dull all shiny paint on brass Williams locos, plastic passenger cars and to take the sheen off buildings and so-forth. Works great, never an issue so far! Good luck
I have to agree on the Krylon being aggressive. I bought a can of the artist's matte to spray on photos on a foamboard building. In areas where I got the coat a little heavy it attacked the ink. No experience on paint, but many light dusting coats would be prudent when using this product.
Testors flat spray they call Dullcoat.......works great....never had it react bad with other paints.
