I'm looking for a source for small screws for MTH trains.  For example, the screws that hold truck side frames on diesels.  I know you might be able to get them from MTH but it is such a small thing and they want $10 shipping and handling for even a toothpick.  I would guess these screws are metric coming from China.  I was changing a traction tire on an E6 diesel and found one missing on the truck side frame.  Just got these engines back from MTH after repairs.

Hi Ray,

FYI, most of the larger machine screws on MTH engines, including the ones that hold diesel side frames, are 3mm.  The smaller screws that hold switches to the frame, Kadee coupler mounts, etc., are 2mm.  You will occasionally find 2.5mm, but 2 and 3mm cover most things.

I bought a lot of them from Lionel. Whenever I order anything, I fill the order with some screws, etc. for the shipping.

BTW, folks really get iffy about shipping charges. If you think about it, the shippers perform a great service for not a lot of money...bringing stuff right to your door. I think of it as support to the shipping industry.
