Sparking | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have a K-Line fp40 w/tmcc that I bought used. I decided to start running it and now the pickups are sparking. So I cleaned and oiled and cleaned the tracks and it still does it just not as bad.I can't get the pickups any cleaner. Any ideas?

I'm guessing you cleaned the truck wheels well also, not just the pickup rollers? I hate to see sparking with TMCC.

On my layout it's always the engine wheels. They collect this black stuff over time and sparking is one of the problems. I use Goo Gone to clean the wheels and then wipe with denatured alcohol. This cures both wheel and roller sparking and greatly improves performance. If the engine is used I would bet there's a lot of crud on the wheels.

I'm using Gargraves track. I did clean the wheels,but not like rollers. How does dirty wheels make the pick-up rollers spark?
