I am working on this engine and need a speaker.  The writing on the speaker is very hard to make out and I want to make sure I order the correct one.  The old speaker was all flaky with lots of fuzz around the magnet.  The engine runs fine but the sounds were  very poor, the horn was anemic.  This is a PS2 3volt diesel engine.

Also, I have a question about the wiring, note how the plug seems to reverse the connections.  This is the way it was when I opened it up and it is a very lightly used engine. (8 hrs and 200mi). Is this normal?

I believe the correct speaker is a 4 ohm 3 watt BF0000034 for a 50mm speaker.

Thanks for any help you may be able to supply.

Any decent 4 ohm 2" speaker will work there.  Of course, you can order the speaker you mention direct from MTH as well.

For a single speaker, the polarity of the speaker isn't all that significant.  Traditionally, the yellow lead from the board goes to the + terminal of the speaker.  When putting the new one it, you can do that, just ignore the colors of the plug-in wire.
